Delhi-Based Man Arrested for Abetting Suicide of Pilot Girlfriend in Andheri; Family Alleges Murder

Andheri, Mumbai: The Powai Police have arrested a 27-year-old man from Delhi for allegedly abetting the suicide of his girlfriend, a 25-year-old commercial pilot with Air India, whose body was found at her rented flat in Andheri East on November 25. The deceased, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, had recently won a youth icon award and was described as a cheerful and independent woman by her family.

The police report states that the man and the pilot had been in a relationship for two years, having met in 2019 during her Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) course in Delhi. However, the woman's family claims that the accused had been abusive, harassing her, and even forcing her to give up non-vegetarian food. They suspect foul play and believe she was murdered, not that she took her own life.

Her uncle told the police that the couple had an argument on November 24, the day before her death, and the accused had visited her home. He further recalled previous incidents of physical and verbal abuse, including a public altercation in March 2024 over her eating habits.

The police have booked the suspect under charges of abetment of suicide, but the family insists that a thorough investigation should be conducted to determine whether it was indeed a murder. The accused is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.

Senior Inspector Jitendra Sonawane of Powai Police Station confirmed the arrest and stated that further inquiries into the case are underway.
