Delhi Assembly Polls Conclude, 57.70% Voter Turnout by 5 PM

New Delhi, February 5: Voting for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi concluded on Wednesday, with the polls starting at 7 AM and ending at 6 PM. However, voting is still ongoing at some polling stations due to long queues. As of 5 PM, the overall voter turnout was 57.70%, compared to 58.78% during the general elections in Delhi.
According to the Election Commission, the voter turnout varied across different districts in Delhi by 5 PM. Central Delhi recorded 55.24%, East Delhi 58.98%, New Delhi 54.37%, North Delhi 57.24%, Northeast Delhi 63.83%, Northwest Delhi 58.05%, Shahdara 61.35%, South Delhi 55.72%, Southeast Delhi 53.77%, Southwest Delhi 58.86%, and West Delhi 57.42%.
The highest voter turnout was in the Mustafabad constituency, with 66.68% by 5 PM, followed by Seelampur at 66.41%. The lowest turnout was recorded in Karol Bagh (47.40%), Model Town (51.29%), Kalkaji (51.81%), and Chandni Chowk (52.76%). Several constituencies saw more than 60% voter turnout, including Matia Mahal, Trilokpuri, Narela, Rohini, Badli, Gokulpur, Karawal Nagar, Kirari, Mangolpuri, Babarpur, Rohtas Nagar, Seemapuri, Shahdara, Chattarpur, and Najafgarh.
Prominent Personalities Cast Their Votes
Several notable personalities residing in the national capital also participated in the voting. President Droupadi Murmu cast her vote at the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central School, located in the President's Estate. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar voted at the North Avenue polling booth, standing in line.
After voting, Vice President Dhankhar remarked, "Voting is like oxygen for democracy. It is the pillar of our democracy, and the source of all rights. There is no greater right than this. Every individual should vote with a sense of understanding, freedom, and national interests."
Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna also voted at the polling booth set up at the Nirman Bhawan. Manipur's Governor and former Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with his wife, voted at Nirman Bhawan as well.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi voted at the Atal Adarsh School, Lodhi State, with her husband Robert Vadra and son. After voting, Priyanka Gandhi urged people to come out and vote in large numbers, emphasizing that voting is their greatest right. She mentioned that Delhi residents are very enthusiastic, discussing issues like water, pollution, and roads. To resolve these issues, they must vote.
Delhi's former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with his wife Sunita Kejriwal, parents, and children, voted at Lady Irwin Senior Secondary School. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar voted at the NDMC Science and Humanity, Tughlak Crescent. Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders Brinda Karat and Prakash Karat also voted. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora cast his vote with his wife.
MP Sanjay Singh voted at St. Columbus School, located on Bhai Veer Singh Marg. Senior BJP leader Harsh Vardhan said that there is great enthusiasm among the people. He voted with his family, celebrating this festival of democracy. Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera claimed that the party would form the government in Delhi.
