Dhaka University Stages Protest in Solidarity with R G Kar College Incident

Dhaka, : Students of Dhaka University held a protest on Saturday in solidarity with the ongoing demonstrations against the recent rape and murder incident at R G Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The protest, organized under the banner of 'Awaz Tolo Naari' (Raise Your Voice, Women), saw participation from students across various departments, voicing their concern over the safety of women and demanding justice for the victim.
Rahnuma Ahmad Nirat, a student from the Physics Department, criticized the non-cooperative attitude of the R G Kar College administration. "As women, we demand that the administration fully cooperate with the investigating agencies to ensure justice for the victim," she said.
Anthropology student Anya Fahmin highlighted the global issue of sexual abuse, expressing her support for the protests in Kolkata. She also called for transparency in the investigation of the Sohgi Jahan Tonu case in Komila, where military personnel have been implicated. "Women should raise their voices against all forms of violence and injustice," Fahmin added.
Anika Arefin Anu, an Economics student, emphasized the crucial role students play in driving mass movements. She urged the government to ensure the safety of all women and called on her fellow students to push for the creation of a safe environment for women across the country.
The protest at Dhaka University underscores the transnational support for the fight against gender-based violence and the demand for justice, as students in Bangladesh stand in solidarity with their counterparts in India.
