Dial 112 Helpline: Police Arrive on Time, 17 Lakh 25 Thousand Calls Recorded

Mumbai: Citizens facing various difficulties have called the Dial 112 helpline for assistance, and the police have responded promptly, reaching the scene in just 6.36 minutes. Notably, in Mira-Bhayandar, the police responded in just 2.5 minutes, while in Mumbai city, it took 21 minutes for the police to arrive.
A total of 17 lakh 25 thousand calls were recorded on the Dial 112 helpline in 2024. The helpline was launched in September 2021, with pilot tests conducted in Ahilyanagar and Beed districts. Every police station now has facilities for Dial 112, including at least 5 to 20 MDT (Mobile Data Terminals) machines, and provisions for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
As soon as a call is received, the location of the complainant is immediately detected, allowing the police to respond quickly to the incident. Police have stated, "No matter how serious the complaint is, we respond immediately. Whether the complaint is true or false is a later concern. We do not ignore any call."
Sometimes, even children make prank calls with false information. An example of this was seen in Beed, where a child called using his grandmother's phone, falsely claiming to be in school, causing a rush of police action. This is why the police are carefully monitoring all calls.
Police Superintendent Navneet Kavath has said, "The Dial 112 helpline has become a crucial support for the public. As soon as a call comes in, our team rushes to the scene for help. Whether the complaint is true or false is secondary."
