Major Relief for Highway Commuters; Pass Valid for 200 Trips or One Year

Government Announces ₹3,000 Annual FASTag Pass for Private Vehicles Starting August 15

New Delhi, June 18 : In a move set to significantly ease the burden on private vehicle owners, the Union government has announced a ₹3,000 annual FASTag pass for non-commercial vehicles, effective August 15, 2025. The announcement was made by Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

The pass, aimed exclusively at private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans, will be valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips—whichever comes first. Designed to enhance the highway travel experience, the initiative is expected to reduce congestion at toll plazas, cut down wait times, and resolve long-standing issues related to toll disputes.

“This policy addresses the concerns of travellers, especially regarding toll plazas within 60 km range,” Gadkari stated, adding that it simplifies the payment process through a single, affordable transaction. The initiative also supports the government's broader push for digitisation and ease of travel across India’s national highway network.

A dedicated link for activation and renewal of the pass will soon be made available through the Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

The new system is being hailed as a major relief for regular highway users, particularly those commuting for work, education, or personal reasons across states. Industry experts believe it will also contribute to smoother operations at toll booths, reduced fuel consumption due to idling, and better compliance with toll norms.

With the festive rollout on Independence Day, the government aims to make highway travel more seamless, affordable, and commuter-friendly.
