Heavy Rains Cripple Mumbai Local Train Services, Causing Delays Up To 25 Minutes

Mumbai, May 26: Mumbai's lifeline its local train network  is facing significant disruptions due to intense monsoon rainfall, leading to delays and commuter chaos across the city. Heavy downpours since early morning have reduced visibility and forced trains on the Central, Western, and Harbour lines to operate at reduced speeds, with the Central line witnessing the worst delays of 15 to 25 minutes.

According to railway officials and commuter reports, trains are running slowly and frequently halting between stations. The Central Railway has highlighted that waterlogging, particularly between Kalyan and Kasara, has been a major contributor to the disruption. Although no new disturbances have been reported today, persistent flooding on certain tracks continues to hamper normal operations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several Mumbai regions including Borivali, Santacruz, and Colaba, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are also expected, prompting authorities to urge residents to avoid travel during peak rainfall hours and stay away from flooded areas.

Rainfall data from the city shows localized heavy showers, with areas like Supari Tank (25mm), Khar Danda (24mm), and Collector Colony (13mm) among the hardest hit. Emergency services remain on alert, prepared to respond to weather-related incidents.

Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly, stay updated through official channels, and prioritize safety as the city continues to brace for ongoing monsoon challenges.
