Mumbai Local Train Services Hit by Waterlogging; Vadala Road-CSMT Route Temporarily Suspended, Now Restored

Mumbai, May 26: Heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai on Monday morning, resulting in significant waterlogging across several parts of the city and causing major disruptions in suburban train services, particularly on the Central Railway’s Harbour Line. The train services between Vadala Road and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) were suspended around 10:25 AM due to severe water accumulation at Masjid station.
The Central Railway (CR) confirmed that the services were restored by 11:45 AM, though trains are currently operating at restricted speeds. “Harbour Line services have been restored with restricted speeds as of now. Efforts are underway to restore normal speeds,” said a CR spokesperson.
Water accumulation on the railway tracks was mainly due to overflowing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) drainage systems, particularly in low-lying areas along the route. The Central Railway and BMC have initiated joint efforts to clear the tracks and address the root cause of the waterlogging to prevent further disruption.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Central Railway’s Mumbai Division shared updates via social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that railway teams are working in coordination with civic authorities to pump out water from affected tracks and resume full services at the earliest.
Commuters across the city faced delays and cancellations, with many stranded at stations. Authorities have urged passengers to stay informed via official railway channels and plan travel accordingly, as delays may persist until water levels subside.
This marks yet another monsoon-related challenge for Mumbai’s robust but often overburdened local transport system. With the monsoon expected to strengthen in the coming days, officials emphasize the need for preparedness and civic cooperation.
