PM Modi Inaugurates Dahod Locomotive Plant; Flags Off First Electric Engine

Dahod, Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the Indian Railways' state-of-the-art Locomotive Manufacturing Plant in Dahod, marking a significant leap in the nation’s railway infrastructure. The PM also flagged off the first 9000 HP electric locomotive produced at the facility.
Accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening connectivity and boosting green transportation.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the new plant will manufacture high-horsepower electric locomotives for both domestic use and exports. These locomotives will be equipped with regenerative braking systems, reducing energy consumption and contributing to environmental sustainability.
Following the inauguration, the PM launched and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹24,000 crore in Dahod. These include major railway upgrades and infrastructure projects under the Gujarat Government.
The PM also flagged off the Veraval-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express and a new Valsad-Dahod Express train.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi held a grand roadshow in Vadodara, where he received a warm welcome from thousands of supporters. Indian flags, patriotic songs, and flower petals filled the air as the PM greeted the crowds. Family members of Indian Army officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a part of the Op Sindoor mission, also participated in the celebrations.
