IMD Issues Nowcast Alert for Moderate to Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai and Surrounding Areas

Mumbai, June 5: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Nowcast alert on Wednesday morning, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall across Mumbai and its adjoining metropolitan regions. The alert, issued at 10:45 AM, remains in effect until 1:45 PM.

According to the IMD, "Moderate to intense spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Raigad during the next 3-4 hours." The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Disaster Management Unit also confirmed the likelihood of intense rainfall in certain pockets, urging citizens to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas.

Mumbai began receiving moderate rainfall on Tuesday evening, marking the onset of the predicted wet spell for the week. While the IMD had forecasted light to moderate rain, several areas in the city recorded significant rainfall over the last 24 hours.

As per official data, the areas that received the highest rainfall include:

  • Mulund Check Naka: 75 mm

  • Ghatkopar: 45 mm

  • Lower Parel: 48 mm

  • Borivali: 50 mm

  • Bhandup Complex: 43 mm

  • Wadala: 44 mm

  • Dindoshi: 46 mm

  • Malabar Hill: 42 mm

Despite the rains, there has been no significant disruption to daily life. Mumbai’s local train services are running smoothly, and no major traffic jams or flooding incidents have been reported so far, according to BMC’s disaster management dashboard.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and check official weather updates regularly.
