Indian Startups Should Focus on Tech, Not Ice Creams: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal urged Indian startups to prioritize technological advancements over luxury consumer brands. Speaking at Startup Mahakumbh 2025, he emphasized the need for innovation in semiconductors, AI, robotics, and 3D manufacturing instead of focusing on grocery delivery and ice cream brands.

Goyal pointed out that startups should aim to prepare India for the future, rather than being confined to consumer-based ventures. Comparing Indian startups to Chinese ones, he stressed that technology-driven enterprises will define India's economic growth.

He assured government support for emerging entrepreneurs facing challenges, while also advocating for stronger domestic capital investment to reduce reliance on foreign funding.
