Kolkata Doctor's Rape Case: TMC Releases Parents' Video to Refute Bribery Allegations

Kolkata:The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has released a video to refute allegations that the Kolkata Police offered bribes to the parents of the doctor involved in the controversial RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. This move comes amid ongoing accusations and political backlash surrounding the death of the trainee doctor.

On August 9, the doctor’s death sparked nationwide protests and led to a strike by junior doctors in West Bengal. The situation has been further complicated by allegations from the doctor’s parents, who claimed that a senior police official attempted to offer them money while delivering their daughter’s body. They alleged that the bribe was part of a scheme by the Kolkata Police to cover up the case.

In response, TMC leader and minister Shashi Panja has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other political entities for allegedly politicizing the tragedy for their own gain. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Panja accused the BJP of using the tragic event not to seek justice but to further their political agenda.

The TMC’s countermeasure includes a video released during a press conference, purportedly filmed last month. The video features the father of the trainee doctor explicitly denying the bribery claims. “We have not said anything on attempts being made to bribe us by police officials. This is a blatant lie. I urge everyone not to spread such rumors and instead ensure that our daughter gets justice,” the victim’s father stated in the video.

The timing of the video’s release, following the allegations made by the doctor’s parents, is seen as a strategic response by the TMC. The party has also alleged that false information and fabricated videos are being spread by the BJP’s IT cell to further politicize the case. Shashi Panja emphasized that the focus should be on obtaining justice for the victim rather than allowing the tragedy to be exploited for political purposes.

The allegations of bribery and cover-up have intensified scrutiny on the Kolkata Police and have become a focal point in the larger narrative of the case. The TMC’s defense seeks to address these claims and shift the discussion back to the pursuit of justice for the deceased doctor.
