Maharashtra to Conduct Surprise Drug Tests for All Drivers

Mumbai, India: In a major step towards road safety, the Maharashtra Transport Department is set to introduce surprise drug tests for all drivers across the state. The tests will apply to drivers of buses, trucks, and cars, including MSRTC and BEST bus drivers. The initiative aims to identify and deter drivers operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Quick Drug Screening with SoToxa
The department will use the SoToxa Oral Fluid Mobile Test System, a handheld device that delivers rapid and accurate results within minutes. This system will help in roadside checks and improve workplace safety across the transport sector.
Enhancing Public Transport Safety
The move is part of Maharashtra’s broader road safety strategy, ensuring safer streets and reducing accidents caused by intoxicated drivers. The Transport Minister, speaking in the state assembly, emphasized that routine and surprise drug tests align with the state's anti-drug policy.
