Mira Bhayandar: Junior Division Court to Be Inaugurated After 12-Year Delay

Mira Bhayandar : In a significant development for the residents of Mira Bhayandar, the long-awaited Junior Division Court at Mira Road is set to begin operations on March 8, marking the end of a 12-year delay. The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for 11:30 am, will be graced by Supreme Court Judge Justice Abhay Oka, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also serves as the Guardian Minister of Thane District. Local representatives and members of the legal community will also be present.

The new court, which includes a Judicial Magistrate First-Class (JMFC) and Civil Judge (Junior Division) court, will officially commence its judicial functions on International Women’s Day, a move that has been hailed as a step forward in addressing the long-standing judicial backlog in the region.

An official statement from local legislator and Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik, revealed that Justice Oka will inaugurate the facility in the presence of key dignitaries, and a committee led by a Bombay High Court judge will inspect the premises to ensure that the infrastructure and amenities are up to standard.

Minister Sarnaik, who visited the site on Wednesday, noted that despite the scheduled inauguration, some residual work and final touches were still pending. He assured that concerned officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) have been instructed to complete the work by March 2, ensuring no hindrance to the ceremony.

The construction of the court began after the government approved the project in 2013. However, it took seven years for the structure to be completed on a plot of land in the Hatkesh area, covering about 4,353 square meters. An additional three years were spent on completing the interiors, furniture, fixtures, and other final tasks.

Once operational, the JMFC will handle a wide range of criminal cases, excluding those triable by the sessions court, while the Civil Judge (Junior Division) will address civil matters involving pecuniary claims of up to Rs 5 lakh. This move is expected to ease the burden on the Thane court, which has been handling a significant number of cases from the twin cities of Mira Bhayandar.

With the inauguration of this much-awaited court, residents of the region can expect quicker judicial relief, significantly reducing the backlog of cases that have been pending for years in Thane's already overcrowded courts. The setting up of this new court is seen as a positive step in enhancing the judicial infrastructure and providing timely justice to the people of Mira Bhayandar.

As the inauguration draws closer, the community looks forward to the beginning of a new chapter in the judicial landscape of Mira Bhayandar, marking a significant victory for the region's legal system after years of anticipation.
