 Mumbai, Maharashtra: Mumbai commuters are in for a major upgrade with the much-anticipated second phase of the Metro 3 line, connecting BKC to Worli, set to open by March 2025. This 9.7 km extension will improve accessibility to some of Mumbai's most densely populated areas, including Dharavi, Shitladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, and Worli, providing faster transit options for millions.

The first phase of Metro 3, operational since October 2024, has already reported a daily ridership of about 22,000 passengers. With this extension, ridership is expected to soar, offering a smoother commute for people traveling to business districts, educational institutions, and key religious landmarks.

Key Highlights:

  • Expansion: The Metro 3 line will now reach the Acharya Atre Chowk station in Worli.

  • Completion Status: Track-laying and Overhead Catenary System (OHE) works are complete; architectural and signaling installations are in the final stages.

  • Trial Runs: Trains are already operational in both directions at Acharya Atre Chowk station to gather data for software updates.

  • Launch Date: Targeted for March 2025.

The Maharashtra government is hopeful that this project will greatly alleviate Mumbai’s notorious traffic congestion while enhancing the efficiency of the city's public transport system. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, also announced that the final stretch of Metro 3, connecting BKC to Colaba, is expected to open by May 2025.
