Mumbai to Experience Water Cut on October 17 and 18 Due to Valve Breakdown

Mumbai : The city of Mumbai is set to face a water supply reduction of five to ten percent on October 17 and 18, following the breakdown of a 900 mm valve in the Vaitarna water pipeline system at Tarali, Thane district. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that the water conveyance system will be temporarily shut down as the hydraulic department undertakes necessary repairs.
The BMC confirmed that the repair work is expected to last approximately 48 hours. “It is necessary to partially shut down the water conveyance system. As a result, there will be a five to ten percent reduction in water supply to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant,” a BMC official stated.
Residents are urged to store sufficient water in advance and to use it judiciously during this period. The city relies on three key dams on the Vaitarna river—Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, and Modak Sagar—for its water supply. Collectively, these dams provide a total of 1,525 million litres of water daily, with Upper Vaitarna contributing 635 million litres, Middle Vaitarna supplying 455 million litres, and Modak Sagar offering 435 million litres.
The BMC continues to monitor the situation and is committed to restoring normal water supply as quickly as possible. Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels for any further developments.
