President of India Droupadi Murmu Begins Visit to Malawi

Nouakchott (Mauritania) : Indian President Droupadi Murmu, after completing the first phase of her state visit to three African countries—Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi—arrived in Mauritania for the second phase. In the presence of Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, a memorandum of understanding was exchanged between India and Mauritania. She also held delegation-level talks with the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Mauritania's Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug also met with President Droupadi Murmu.

Today, President Murmu will reach Malawi for the third and final phase of her visit at the invitation of Malawi's President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. She will be in Malawi from October 17 to 19. During this visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral meetings with Malawi's leadership, meet with prominent business and industry leaders, and engage with the Indian diaspora. She will also tour places of cultural and historical significance. This visit aims to strengthen the existing friendly and cordial relations between India and Malawi.

President Murmu expressed gratitude to the Mauritanian government and its citizens for their support of the Indian community. She stated that India is rapidly moving towards its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. India can contribute to Mauritania's development journey through human resource development, infrastructure, construction, agriculture, health, education, skill development, and digital innovation. She highlighted the many cultural similarities between Mauritania and India, particularly in clothing styles, especially women's attire.
