Trump Nominates Pam Bondi as Attorney General After Matt Gaetz Withdraws

Washington DC:President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Pam Bondi, the former Florida Attorney General, as his new pick for Attorney General. Bondi, a long-time Trump ally, brings nearly two decades of experience in law enforcement. She served as Florida's Attorney General and was a key part of Trump's legal team during his first impeachment. Bondi has also been outspoken in defending Trump against various legal challenges.
Trump praised Bondi for her tough stance on crime and her commitment to public safety, saying she would refocus the Department of Justice on its original purpose: fighting crime and making America safer. Her nomination comes after Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration amid controversy surrounding allegations of sexual misconduct. Gaetz, who had been a frontrunner for the role, cited the distractions caused by the ongoing investigation.
If confirmed by the Senate, Bondi would lead a Justice Department with over 115,000 employees and a $45 billion budget. Senate Republicans, including Lindsey Graham, have expressed strong support for Bondi's nomination, with Graham calling it a "slam dunk" choice.
This move marks another step in Trump's efforts to surround himself with loyal allies as he prepares to take office.
