India Sends Urgent Aid to Quake-Hit Myanmar Under ‘Operation Brahma’

Myanmar, Thailand, India: India has stepped up as the first responder to the devastating earthquakes that struck Myanmar and Thailand, leaving nearly 700 dead and over 1,600 injured. As part of ‘Operation Brahma’, the first tranche of 15 tonnes of relief material was flown to Yangon via an Indian Air Force cargo plane. The aid includes tents, sleeping bags, blankets, food packets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, generators, and essential medicines.

Key Developments:

  • PM Modi assured India’s full support, stating that authorities are on standby for further assistance.

  • Myanmar declared a state of emergency, with hospitals overwhelmed and infrastructure damaged.

  • In Bangkok, a 30-storey building collapsed, leaving 90-100 people missing. The Thai government has imposed emergency measures.

  • Global Response: The US and other nations have offered aid following Myanmar’s open appeal for assistance.

With thousands still trapped under rubble, rescue operations are ongoing across the region. The death toll is expected to rise, making international relief efforts critical.
