Mira-Bhayandar Pod Taxi Project to Launch This Diwali: ₹1,000 Cr Green Transport Boost

Mira-Bhayandar | August 8, 2025: In a landmark move to revolutionize urban transport and reduce traffic congestion, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that the foundation stone for the Mira-Bhayandar Pod Taxi (Elevated Car) Project will be laid this Diwali. The ₹1,000 crore project, designed to run entirely under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, will not rely on government funds and is expected to become operational within two years.

The ambitious project envisions a network of 16 pod taxi stations, all strategically connected to metro hubs, to facilitate smooth and efficient commuting for residents. These pod taxis will operate on 18-meter-wide roads with a minimal wait time of just two minutes, ensuring quick and seamless travel. The fare has been fixed at ₹30 for distances of 1 to 2 kilometers, a pricing model that will remain unchanged for the next 30 years, making it affordable and consistent for daily users.

Equipped with advanced safety measures including anti-collision technology and cutting-edge structural design, the pod taxi system is poised to set new standards for smart and green urban transport in India. Once launched, this will be Maharashtra’s second such initiative, following the pilot project in Vadodara.

The first phase of the pod taxi system will commence in the JP Infra area, covering Wards 12, 13, and 18. With the upcoming metro services in the region expected to begin by December 2025, the pod taxi network is planned to work in harmony with the metro, offering integrated multi-modal connectivity for the region’s growing population.

In addition to the pod taxi announcement, Minister Sarnaik also reviewed 26 key infrastructure projects valued at ₹1,800 crore, underscoring the state government's focus on accelerating urban development and improving public amenities in Mira-Bhayandar. The overall transport and infrastructure push aims to transform the region into a model of sustainable and future-ready urban planning.
