Maharashtra HSC Exam Under Tight Security: Drones, CCTV, and Flying Squads to Prevent Malpractices

Mumbai, Maharashtra: Maharashtra’s HSC board exams kicked off this week with unprecedented security measures to ensure a fair and smooth examination process. Drones, CCTV surveillance, and flying squads have been deployed to crack down on cheating, with over 818 sensitive centres identified for surprise checks.
In an effort to curb external interference, Section 144 has been imposed around exam venues, and all photocopy shops within a 500-meter radius have been shut down during the exams. As part of the crackdown, the board has replaced supervisors and centre heads at sensitive locations with staff from institutions with a zero-malpractice track record.
A major concern regarding students wearing burqas was addressed by board chairman Sharad Gosavi, who clarified that there is no ban on burqas. “All students, regardless of attire, will face no obstacles as long as they adhere to security checks,” he assured.
The exams have also been scheduled 10 days earlier this year, allowing results to be declared by May 15. This move aims to help students apply for college admissions and competitive exams without delays. The chief minister, education minister, and other key officials have been actively involved to ensure the exams run smoothly under the ‘HSC Board Exam Utsav’ initiative, which aims to provide a student-friendly environment.
For students experiencing exam stress, the board has appointed 10 state-level counsellors and set up a helpline to provide guidance. As part of their ‘Copy-Free Campaign,’ schools and colleges have been actively educating students on ethical practices.
The board has also allowed students to carry personal water bottles due to health concerns linked to the recent Guillain-Barré Syndrome outbreak in Pune, though they will be kept under supervision.
Gosavi urged students to focus on fair practices and avoid shortcuts, wishing them the best for their exams.
