Modi to Visit US in February: Trump Hints at Strengthening Ties

Washington D.C./New Delhi: US President Donald Trump announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States in February. The statement came after a telephonic conversation between the leaders, marking their first dialogue since Trump assumed office for a second term on January 20.

Trump, speaking to reporters on Monday, noted that the call was “productive,” with discussions centered on expanding cooperation between the nations, immigration policies, and plans for Modi’s US visit. Trump stated, “India will do what is right” regarding illegal immigrants, indicating alignment on sensitive issues like immigration enforcement.

PM Modi’s anticipated visit comes months after his attendance at the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit in September, where he engaged with global leaders, including then-President Joe Biden. His upcoming US trip underscores the deepening US-India strategic partnership and shared commitment to the Indo-Pacific region.

According to the White House, the visit will include discussions on strengthening ties and advancing collaborations under the Quad framework. India is also set to host a Quad summit later this year.

External affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar represented India during Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, further symbolizing the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.

With Trump’s tough stance on illegal immigration contributing significantly to his re-election, his collaboration with PM Modi hints at further developments on key policy alignments.

Stay tuned as the two leaders prepare to script a new chapter in bilateral relations.
