Mumbai: 163 Local Trains Cancelled Over Weekend for Bridge Work Between Borivali and Kandivali

Mumbai, April 26:Commuters on Western Railway’s suburban network will face major disruptions this weekend as a 35-hour special traffic and power block has been scheduled between Borivali and Kandivali for essential infrastructure work. The block, which began at 1 PM on Saturday, April 26, will continue uninterrupted until midnight on Sunday, April 27.
The primary reason for the disruption is the re-girdering of Bridge Number 61—an important component of Mumbai’s suburban railway corridor. As a result, a total of 163 local train services will be affected. Of these, 73 services were cancelled starting Saturday afternoon, while another 90 services will remain suspended throughout Sunday.
In addition to suburban local trains, several long-distance mail and express trains will also be either partially cancelled or rerouted. Affected trains include the Ahmedabad–Borivali–Ahmedabad and Borivali–Nandurbar–Borivali Express, among others. Western Railway officials have urged passengers to check train schedules in advance and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
The block will impact key operational lines such as the 5th line, car shed line, and Kandivali yard line. While some local train services will continue to operate, they are expected to face delays and changes in route. To mitigate the effect on daily commuters, Western Railway has arranged alternate slow and fast train services between Virar and Dahanu Road, and curtailed certain short-distance services.
Railway officials stated that this planned maintenance work is crucial to enhance the safety and longevity of infrastructure. Passengers are advised to stay updated through official Western Railway announcements and helplines for further changes and rescheduling.
