Mumbai Metro Aqua Line : This report has been shared by the metro authorities on social media, showing the metro running under the Mithi River.
The next phase of Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 is expected to begin soon. A phase of the metro on the Colaba - Bandra - SEEPZ corridor, being developed by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL), was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5 and became operational. After the phase from the BKC Metro Station to the Aarey JVLR Metro Station was launched, now the successful testing of six stations in the next phase has been completed. The special feature of this test is that the metro safely traveled under the Mithi River. A video of this test, showing the metro running under the Mithi River, has been shared by the metro’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
What will this phase be like?
A video showing the successful test of the metro’s route under the Mithi River has been posted by the Mumbai Metro 3 (@MumbaiMetro3) handle. This phase is from Dharavi to Acharya Atre Chowk, with a total distance of 9.77 kilometers. Testing was conducted at six stations along this stretch. After inspection by the Metro Railway Safety Commissioner and obtaining the safety certificate, this route will be open to the public by March 2025.
Which stations will be part of this phase?
The six stations in this phase from BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk include Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. After the inauguration of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro Line 3, this service has been partially available to passengers. The first phase, covering 12.5 kilometers of the underground metro route, has been operational since September. This route includes 10 stations, of which 9 are underground. A grade terminus station has also been constructed at Aarey.
A Real Alternative to Local Trains
For the first phase from Aarey to BKC, trains are planned to run every six and a half minutes. It is estimated that 2,500 passengers will travel per trip. However, this metro has not yet received much response. With the second phase starting service in important areas like Worli, it is expected that this service will receive a good response from passengers and truly become an alternative to the local trains.
