Mumbai Airport Gold Smuggling: DRI Seizes 12 Kg of Smuggled Gold Concealed in DJ Lights.

Mumbai - In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 12 kilograms of smuggled gold worth Rs 9.6 crore at the Mumbai Air Cargo Complex on Friday. The gold was concealed inside DJ lights, leading to the disruption of a significant smuggling attempt.
According to DRI officials, the gold was discovered based on specific intelligence inputs. During an inspection of a consignment, approximately 3 kg of gold was found hidden within each DJ light, resulting in a total recovery of 12 kg.
Following the discovery, DRI officials conducted a thorough investigation and traced the operation to a nearby warehouse. During a search of the facility, authorities found 68 more DJ lights with hidden cavities used for smuggling gold in a similar fashion.
Two individuals suspected of being involved in the smuggling operation have been arrested. Investigations indicate that this smuggling method has been used to bring large quantities of gold into India in the past.
This seizure is the latest in a series of successful operations by the DRI, which recently recovered a total of 48 kg of smuggled gold in just one week.
