Mumbai Man Outsmarts ‘Digital Arrest’ Scammer in Hilarious Face-Off

Mumbai: ‘Digital Arrest’ scams have become alarmingly widespread in India, with scammers posing as police officers and demanding money from unsuspecting victims. However, a recent incident from Mumbai highlights how awareness and quick wit can turn the tables on these fraudsters.

In a viral video circulating on social media, a Mumbai man received a video call from a scammer impersonating a police officer in full uniform. The scammer spun his typical yarn, claiming a police case had been registered against the man and he had been placed under “digital arrest.” The inevitable demand for money to “settle” the matter was set to follow.

However, the would-be victim had no intention of falling for the trick. When the scammer insisted he come into view on the camera, the man hilariously brought his dog in front of the screen, saying, “Yeh lijiye, sir. Aagya main camera ke saamne” (Here you go, sir. I’m here in front of the camera)

Undeterred, the scammer demanded the man’s face. Instead of complying, the man mockingly insisted the dog was his real face and called out the scammer as “nakli vardi” (fake uniform). Unable to keep his act together, the scammer broke into laughter before abruptly disconnecting the call, realizing his ruse had been exposed.

This incident underscores the importance of vigilance. While the scammer’s ploy was foiled this time, such scams have already cost many individuals significant sums. It’s essential to remember there’s no such thing as a ‘digital arrest,’ and everyone should remain alert to protect themselves from similar fraudulent attempts.

Stay aware, Mumbai! Spread the word and protect yourself from falling prey to these digital scammers.
