Mumbai Doctors Support ‘Know Your Doctor’ Initiative to Curb Fake Practitioners

Mumbai, India: In a significant step toward eliminating fraudulent medical practitioners, the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has launched the ‘Know Your Doctor’ (KYD) platform. This initiative enables patients to verify a doctor's credentials in real time by scanning a QR code displayed at clinics and hospitals. The code provides essential details, including registration number, degree, specialisation, and licence validity.
While many senior doctors have welcomed this move for enhancing transparency and patient trust, some opposition panels argue that mandatory QR codes are unnecessary. Despite the debate, the MMC has instructed 1.4 lakh registered doctors to implement the system.
Dr. Vinky Rughwani, MMC administrator, emphasized that the initiative aims to protect patients from unqualified practitioners, following multiple complaints about fake doctors jeopardizing public health.
