In a major drug bust, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai intercepted two passengers transporting 16 kilograms of mephedrone from Hyderabad to Mumbai. The seizure, worth approximately Rs 1.93 crore, took place early on Tuesday, marking a significant achievement for the agency ahead of its 67th founding day.
DRI officials, acting on specific intelligence, launched an overnight surveillance operation. The two smugglers, traveling on a bus, were apprehended, and their baggage was found to contain white powdered substances, which were later confirmed as mephedrone. Following their interrogation, three additional individuals, identified as middlemen and receivers in the drug network, were arrested.
The investigation revealed that the seized cash, Rs 1.93 crore, was linked to the proceeds of the trafficking operation. The DRI officials have vowed to continue their efforts in dismantling such illegal networks.
