MUMBAI – Mumbaikars will experience a 10% water cut for five days starting from December 1 to December 5, announced the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The water supply disruption is due to a malfunction in the pneumatic gate system at the Pise water supply, which serves the city. The repair work will be conducted over the next five days.
Along with Mumbai, the water cut will also impact Thane and Bhiwandi municipalities, as these areas rely on the same water supply system. The BMC has urged residents to use water sparingly and cooperate during this period.
This is the second water supply issue in recent months; a similar cut occurred in October due to a valve failure in the Vaitrana pipeline that supplies water to the city. BJP leaders, including Ashish Shelar, have criticized the municipal administration for failing to invest in new water sources, pointing to the cancellation of the Gargai Dam project and delays in the desalination project as contributing factors to the current water shortages
