Mumbai Man Kills Mother-in-Law by Setting Her on Fire, Dies by Suicide

Mumbai, India: A gruesome crime unfolded in the Navghar Police Station area, where a 56-year-old man, Krishna Daji Ashtankar, set his 72-year-old mother-in-law, Babi Daji Usare, on fire inside his mini-truck before taking his own life in the same manner.

Krishna, a driver, was distraught after his wife left him five months ago and blamed his mother-in-law for the separation. On February 24, he visited Usare’s house and tricked her into his truck, pretending to take her to a hospital. Once inside, he locked the shutters, brutally assaulted her with a heavy object, and set her on fire before immolating himself.

Police and fire brigade officials rushed to the scene but found both victims with severe burns. They were taken to Veer Savarkar Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The Navghar police have launched an investigation into the tragic case, which has left the community in shock.
