Pune: Rape on Woman Inside MSRTC Bus in Pune, Political Leaders Call for Immediate Action

Pune – A distressing incident has come to light where a 26-year-old woman was reportedly assaulted inside a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus at the busy Swargate bus depot. The crime, which took place close to a police station in a well-trafficked area, has raised serious concerns about public safety, particularly for women.
Political parties across the spectrum took to the streets on Wednesday to express their outrage over the alleged assault. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vasant More, along with his supporters, staged a protest by ransacking the MSRTC office at Swargate, demanding swift justice for the victim.
Union Minister and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol strongly condemned the incident, stating, "Such incidents will not be tolerated. I have spoken to the police commissioner and urged for the immediate arrest of the accused. We will offer full support to the police in maintaining law and order in the city."
NCP (SP) MP and party executive president Supriya Sule expressed her concern about the incident occurring so close to a police station. "The fact that such a crime happened in a busy area, near a police station, shows that there is a lack of deterrence. This raises serious questions about the safety of women in the state. With crimes happening daily in the city, it’s clear that the Home Department must take immediate action to improve the situation. The accused should face strong legal action, and this case should be fast-tracked in court," she said.
Shiv Sena leader Nilam Gorhe, who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the State Legislative Council, visited the site of the crime and expressed solidarity with the victim.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare also voiced her concerns, stating, "This incident in a busy area is alarming, and the increasing number of crimes in the city suggest that law enforcement needs to regain control. Criminals must be held accountable, and the guardian minister should demand an explanation from the city police regarding the law and order situation."
State Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal criticized the current administration, saying, "While the Chief Minister is focused on political issues, serious crimes like this continue to occur in the city. This incident highlights the deteriorating state of law and order in the state. The safety and security of women should be a priority, and those responsible for ensuring their protection must take immediate action."
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, and political leaders have called for immediate justice for the victim. The police are currently investigating the case, and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused.
