Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Phase 2A) Inaugurated: BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk Now Operational for Public

Mumbai, May 10: In a major boost to Mumbai’s urban transportation network, the much-anticipated Phase 2A of Mumbai Metro Line 3 was inaugurated on Friday, May 9, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other senior officials. The new underground corridor between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Acharya Atre Chowk is now officially open to the public as of Saturday, May 10.

The fully underground 9.77-kilometre stretch features six stations—BKC, Dharavi, Shitla Devi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. Operated by a fleet of eight state-of-the-art trains, the service promises improved east-west connectivity for thousands of daily commuters in Mumbai.

According to an official announcement shared via Mumbai Metro Line 3’s X (formerly Twitter) handle, the metro will operate Monday to Saturday from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM, and Sundays from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM. With trains running every 6 minutes and 20 seconds, commuters can expect reliable, frequent service.

Ticket fares have been structured affordably, ranging from ₹10 to ₹40, depending on the distance travelled—making it an accessible mode of transport for all economic sections.

The new line boasts cutting-edge features that elevate the commuter experience. All trains and stations are fully air-conditioned, with dedicated women’s coaches, 24/7 CCTV surveillance, and advanced baggage scanning for enhanced security. Passengers can enjoy seamless mobile connectivity, multilingual guidance systems, dynamic route maps, and LCD infotainment displays.

Inclusivity and accessibility have also been prioritized with wheelchair access, baby diaper-changing facilities, and well-lit, safe platforms. Emergency systems, including fire suppression in every coach and direct communication with the control room, provide an additional layer of safety.

With its combination of comfort, security, and efficiency, Metro Line 3 (Phase 2A) is expected to transform intra-city travel and reduce traffic congestion in key areas of Mumbai.
