Mumbai Police Seize 710 Kg of Narcotics Worth ₹36.74 Crore in Just Four Months

Mumbai, June 12 : In a significant crackdown on the drug menace in the city, the Mumbai Police have seized a massive 710 kilograms of narcotics worth ₹36.74 crore between January and April this year. A total of 426 drug-related cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 493 individuals, according to official data released by the department.

The statistics highlight that ganja continues to be the most widely seized substance. Police registered 273 cases related to ganja, arrested 281 persons, and confiscated 686 kilograms of the contraband valued at ₹1.87 crore.

While ganja dominated in quantity, mephedrone (MD) topped in market value. In 86 cases, 112 people were arrested, and 14.18 kg of MD worth a staggering ₹26.15 crore was seized—accounting for the largest financial impact among all substances.

The crackdown also targeted heroin, with police registering 21 cases, arresting 27 individuals, and seizing 0.65 kg of the drug valued at ₹1.87 crore. In addition, nine cases of charas resulted in the seizure of 8.10 kg, worth ₹4.49 crore, and the arrest of 14 individuals.

High-end drugs such as cocaine were not spared. Mumbai Police registered three cases, arresting three people and recovering 600 grams of cocaine valued at ₹2 crore.

Apart from trafficking, a significant number of arrests were made for drug consumption. Police registered 2,438 cases of consumption, leading to the arrest of 2,032 individuals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying efforts against narcotics in the city. A senior officer stated, “We are employing intelligence-based operations and increasing vigilance across vulnerable zones to dismantle the supply networks.”

As Mumbai Police continue their robust operations, the recent statistics highlight both the scale of the problem and the law enforcement’s proactive response to curb the drug trade in the city.
