Residents Demand FIR, Arrests Over Substandard Road Work in Gorai

Mumbai, June 11, 2025:  In a strong show of public outrage, residents of Babanpada in Gorai have raised serious allegations of corruption and negligence in the construction of Boscowadi Road, demanding immediate action against the road contractor and concerned Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials. The Watchdog Foundation, a citizens’ advocacy group, has brought to light the poor quality of roadwork, which has visibly deteriorated and developed cracks within just one month of its completion.

Photographs submitted by the residents reveal substantial structural failure, sparking suspicions of the use of substandard materials and shoddy workmanship. “It is deeply troubling that a newly constructed road has deteriorated so quickly. This is not just a case of poor work, but potentially a serious instance of corruption and collusion,” said a representative from the Watchdog Foundation. The organization has formally demanded the registration of an FIR and the immediate arrest of both the contractor and BMC officials allegedly involved. They are calling for charges under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, including cheating, forgery of valuable security, forgery for the purpose of cheating, and criminal conspiracy.

“There is a clear indication that the substandard work was not only executed but approved and concealed through official channels,” the Foundation stated in its letter to the Mumbai Police. They have urged law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation to identify all individuals responsible and ensure strict legal action. Local residents echoed the sentiment, expressing frustration over repeated instances of civic negligence. “We pay taxes, yet we keep getting cheated with poor infrastructure. Someone has to be held accountable,” said Ravi Shinde, a long-time resident of the area. The demand for accountability has reignited calls for increased transparency in BMC’s public works contracts and stricter oversight of infrastructure projects. As of now, there has been no official response from the BMC or the Mumbai Police, but citizens and activists alike are pressing for swift and decisive action.
