Mumbai's Smog Struggles: Breathing Becomes a Challenge as AQI Soars

Mumbai: Mumbai is currently grappling with a persistent haze and deteriorating air quality. Since last week, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) has remained in the "Poor" to "Unhealthy" category, ranging between 120 and 258. Locations like Colaba (285), Mazgaon (276), and BKC (212) are seeing some of the worst conditions.
The city’s worsening AQI can be attributed to the fall in humidity, calm winds, and post-monsoon construction works, which are adding to dust accumulation and further aggravating pollution levels. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts continued hazy skies and temperatures between 20°C and 29°C this week.
Experts are urging those with respiratory conditions, especially children, elderly people, and asthma patients, to avoid venturing out in the morning when pollution levels peak. "Until the dust particles settle, they should take extra care of their health," said IMD Director Sunil Kamble.
As Mumbai faces ongoing air quality challenges, citizens must remain vigilant and monitor the conditions for their health and well-being.
