Maharashtra to Abolish All State Border Checkposts by April 15

Mumbai, India: In a major move to modernize Maharashtra’s transport sector, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that all state border checkposts will be abolished by April 15. The decision, aligning with the Central Government’s 'One Nation, One Market' vision, was made during the foundation stone-laying ceremony of ‘Parivahan Bhavan’ in Worli, Mumbai.

The transport community had long demanded the removal of these checkposts, citing delays, corruption, and inefficiencies. Former AIMTC President Bal Malkit Singh emphasized that several states have already eliminated border checkposts, ensuring smoother logistics and faster transit. With GST, FASTag, E-Way Bills, and digital tax systems in place, physical checkposts have become obsolete.

Key Benefits of the Move:

✅ Faster transportation and reduced delays in goods movement.
✅ Curbing corruption and reducing red tape for transporters.
✅ Boosting Maharashtra’s economy by improving trade efficiency.
✅ Better revenue collection through digital monitoring.

The initiative is part of Fadnavis’s 100-day action plan to enhance Maharashtra’s competitiveness in the transport and logistics sector. The industry now looks forward to seamless operations and an improved ‘Ease of Doing Business’ environment.
