Nagpur Traffic Police Issue Over 5,000 Challans on Independence Day, Collect ₹25 Lakh in Fines

Nagpur,: The Nagpur Traffic Police conducted a major crackdown on traffic rule violators during Independence Day celebrations, issuing over 5,000 challans and collecting fines amounting to ₹25,53,700. The enforcement drive was aimed at promoting safe driving and ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws.
The most common offense was driving under the influence of alcohol, with 2,669 cases of drunk driving recorded despite the closure of liquor shops and bars on the day. Following closely were 1,897 cases of riders not wearing helmets, leading to penalties under sections 129/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA).
Other significant violations included:
- Wrong Parking: 135 cases under section 122/177 MVA.
- Carrying Passengers Beyond Capacity: 184 cases under section 194A MVA.
- Failure to Stop Before Stop Line: 51 cases under MMVR 237/177 MVA.
- Triple Seat Riding: 178 cases under section 128/177 MVA.
- Fancy Number Plates: 29 cases under section 51/50 CMVR.
In addition, the police penalized 60 drivers for not wearing seat belts, and 14 cases were recorded against heavy vehicles entering restricted zones under section 199/177 CMVR.
