Newborn’s Body Found in Mumbai Airport Washroom, Police Investigate

Mumbai: A tragic incident unfolded at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Tuesday night when a newborn boy was found abandoned in a bin inside the Terminal 2 washroom. The baby was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

According to airport officials, a housekeeping staff discovered the infant around 10 PM in the family restroom near boarding gates 43 and 44 in the domestic section of T2. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police were immediately alerted.

DCP Maneesh Kalwaniya confirmed that the baby was a full-term, nine-month-old male. A case has been registered under Sections 91 and 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with acts preventing a child from being born alive and concealing birth by secretly disposing of the body.

The newborn’s body was sent for postmortem at Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle. Investigations are underway, with authorities scanning CCTV footage and coordinating with airlines to identify the suspect.

An airline official noted that pregnant women in their final month are not allowed to fly, raising suspicions that the person responsible could be an airport staff member rather than a passenger.
