Operation Sindoor Disrupts Air Travel Near Border: Mumbai Indians’ Travel Plans to Dharamsala Under Cloud

New Delhi/Mumbai, May 7: The ongoing military developments under Operation Sindoor, involving strikes on terrorist camps across the Pakistan border, have led to temporary shutdowns of multiple airports in northern India—posing a major logistical challenge for IPL side Mumbai Indians ahead of their match in Dharamsala on May 11.

According to reports, flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot have been suspended until 5:30 am IST on May 10, following security advisories issued by Indian authorities.

The situation has placed Mumbai Indians' travel to Dharamsala under uncertainty, especially as the closest viable airports remain inaccessible. As per a BCCI official quoted by the Times of India, “We will have to wait and watch for now. There is no option because even Chandigarh airport is shut, so we need to see what can be done. Two teams are already here and MI were supposed to arrive later this week for their match on May 11.”

The Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals squads have already reached Dharamsala for their May 8 clash, suggesting that games are expected to continue as scheduled for now. However, with the Chandigarh airport also affected by the shutdown, the only feasible alternative for Mumbai Indians may be traveling via Delhi airport followed by a long road journey.

The BCCI is reportedly tracking government advisories closely and will take appropriate decisions as the situation evolves.

Meanwhile, on the field, Mumbai Indians' six-match winning streak was halted by the Gujarat Titans in a tense finish at the Wankhede Stadium. Chasing 155, the Titans snatched a three-wicket victory off the final ball, in a rain-hit contest that saw several interruptions.

With growing security tensions and logistical constraints, all eyes are now on how the league organizers and franchises adapt in the final stages of the IPL season.
