Preity Zinta Slams Congress for Spreading Fake News About ₹18 Crore Loan Waiver

Mumbai, February 25: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has strongly criticized the Congress party for spreading false claims about her involvement in a loan waiver of ₹18 crore. Responding to a post from Kerala Congress on social media, the actress clarified that she repaid the entire loan more than a decade ago and operates her social media accounts herself.

On Monday, the Kerala Congress Twitter account claimed that Preity Zinta had given her social media accounts to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in exchange for a loan waiver from New India Cooperative Bank, which allegedly led to the bank’s collapse. The post stated, "She gave her social media accounts to BJP and got 18 Cr written off, and the bank collapsed last week. Depositors are on the streets for their money."

Reacting to the claim on Tuesday, Preity expressed her outrage, calling out the party for promoting "fake news" and spreading "vile gossip" using her name and images. She wrote, "No, I operate my social media accounts myself and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news & indulging in vile gossip & click baits using my name & images."

The actress also provided further clarification, stating that the loan in question had been fully repaid more than 10 years ago. “For the record, a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK - over 10 years ago. Hope this clarifies and helps so there are no misunderstandings in the future,” she added.

Preity’s legal team confirmed that the overdraft facility with the bank was taken more than 12 years ago and the full amount was repaid over 10 years ago, closing the account.

In addition to her legal clarification, Preity expressed her frustration at how her social media activity has been misinterpreted. Recently, she had shared her experience of interacting with the AI chatbot Grok3 on X (formerly Twitter), which some users had speculated was a paid promotion. Addressing the cynicism surrounding her posts, she encouraged people to adopt a more open-minded approach to communication and urged them to appreciate individuals for who they are.

On the professional front, Preity Zinta is preparing for her comeback with the upcoming film Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, which also stars Sunny Deol and his son Karan Deol. The film is backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
