Kharghar Road Rage: Main Accused Arrested 20 Days After IT Professional’s Murder

Navi Mumbai, India: The Navi Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested 22-year-old Faizan Shaikh, the main accused in the Kharghar road rage case, where IT professional Shivkumar Sharma was beaten to death with a helmet. Shaikh had gone into hiding after the incident on February 3 and was finally nabbed from Bandra Bandstand on Monday.

The police had earlier arrested Mohammad Rehan Ansari, who was riding pillion with Shaikh at the time of the assault. The duo fled after the attack and later realized through news reports that Sharma had succumbed to his injuries. Kharghar Police, Navi Mumbai Crime Branch, and Mumbai Police worked together to trace Shaikh, who was found hiding at a relative’s house in Bandra (East).

The brutal attack occurred when Sharma allegedly tried to overtake the accused’s scooter near Belpada and Utsav Chowk, leading to an altercation. Shaikh reportedly grabbed his helmet and repeatedly struck Sharma’s head before fleeing the scene. Sharma managed to reach the Kharghar Police Station but collapsed while lodging a complaint and later died in the hospital due to severe head injuries.

Shaikh was produced before Panvel court on Sunday and remanded in police custody until Friday for further investigation.
