Shocking CCTV Footage Shows Man Attacking Pet Dog in Sion; Police Launch Investigation

Mumbai, Sion: In a disturbing incident that has shaken the local community, a man was caught on CCTV footage allegedly assaulting a pet dog with a spanner in Sion, Mumbai. The brutal attack, which was revealed on December 17, has prompted the Sion Police to initiate an investigation, with an FIR (First Information Report) being processed against the suspect.

The incident came to light when Haider Ali, a mechanic residing in the Sion area, found his pet dog, Rani, unconscious. In a state of panic, Ali questioned a passerby who revealed that an unknown individual had assaulted the dog. After reviewing CCTV footage from the area, Ali discovered that the assailant was a fruit juice vendor, who admitted to striking the dog because he was frightened by her barking.

Following the complaint, Senior PI Santosh Shevale of Sion Police Station confirmed that the suspect had been identified and assured the public that action would be taken as per the law. “We have identified the accused and are in the process of registering the FIR. Action will be taken as per the law,” Shevale stated.

Rani, the dog, was quickly taken to Sewri Animal Hospital where she is currently recovering and said to be in stable condition. Haider Ali, in a statement to the press, has vowed to pursue justice for his pet.

The act of cruelty towards animals is governed by the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 in India. This law provides a framework for prosecuting cases related to animal abuse. Under this act, an individual found guilty of intentionally causing harm to an animal, including beating, neglect, or inhumane treatment, can face imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to ₹50,000.

In this case, if the investigation confirms the fruit juice vendor's guilt, he could face serious legal consequences under this Act, which aims to protect the rights of animals and promote their well-being.
