Tesla to Launch First Charging Station in Mumbai Next Week

Mumbai, August 2: Electric vehicle giant Tesla is set to open its first charging station in India next week in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in its expansion into the Indian market. The announcement follows the company’s launch of the Model Y and its first experience centre at Maker Maxity Commercial Complex in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) last month.

The new charging station will be equipped with four V4 Supercharging stalls for DC fast charging and four destination charging stalls for standard AC charging. The Superchargers will offer a peak charging speed of 250 kW and will be priced at ₹24 per kilowatt-hour. The destination chargers will provide 11 kW of power, priced at ₹14 per kilowatt-hour. According to Tesla, this setup is designed to support both fast and regular charging needs of EV users in the city.

Highlighting the capabilities of its fast-charging technology, Tesla said that the Model Y can gain up to 267 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes using the Superchargers — enough for five round trips between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Gateway of India. The company has stated that this will be the first of eight Supercharging sites planned across the country, aiming to enable convenient long-distance travel for Tesla owners in India.

In a customer-focused initiative, Tesla also announced that each new car purchase in India will come with a complimentary wall connector that will be installed at the buyer’s home. This move is in line with Tesla’s strategy of building a robust ecosystem of products and support infrastructure to enhance user experience.

Tesla officially entered the Indian market in July with the launch of its Model Y SUV, priced from ₹59.89 lakh. With the upcoming charging station and plans for more across the country, the company is poised to play a key role in shaping India's electric vehicle landscape.
