Thakur Village Residents Protest Against Stone Crushers, Demand Action Over Noise and Air Pollution

Mumbai, January 3, 2025:Residents of housing societies in Thakur Village, Kandivli East, have raised serious concerns over the ongoing operation of stone crushers in their vicinity, citing severe noise and dust pollution that has disrupted their daily lives and caused health problems.

The residents of Bhoomi Valley Society, located near NG Suncity, are particularly affected. They claim that the stone crushers, which have been operating in the area for over a decade, now function for longer hours, exacerbating the situation. "The units are located just 50 meters from our boundary wall. They start as early as 4:30 AM and operate until 7:30 PM. The constant noise and the haze caused by dust have made it unbearable for us," said Sandhir Singh, secretary of Bhoomi Valley Society, which houses around 283 flats.

Singh highlighted that the air quality is so poor that residents facing the stone-crushing units cannot even open their windows. "Except during the monsoon, there is haze throughout the year. The situation has worsened in the last 18 months, with the noise and intensity of operations increasing," he added.

The residents have been battling with this issue for years. In the past, complaints were lodged with public representatives and authorities, which temporarily halted the crushers' operations. However, the crushers resumed their activities soon after, without complying with air pollution mitigation guidelines.
