Tragic Honour Killing in Gwalior: Young Girl Shot Dead by Father Over Love Affair

Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: In a heartbreaking incident in Gwalior on Tuesday night, 20-year-old Tanu Gurjar was shot dead by her own father, Mahesh Gurjar, in what police are treating as a case of honour killing. The chilling attack occurred around 8 p.m. at their residence in Adarsh Nagar, Maharajpura.

Tanu, who had openly opposed an arranged marriage scheduled for January 18, had taken to social media two days before her death. In a tearful video, she expressed her love for Bhikam Mawai, a young man from Agra, and revealed the daily abuse and threats she faced from her family for defying their wishes. In her video, Tanu claimed, “If anything happens to me, my family will be responsible.”

Despite her outcry, her family continued preparations for her marriage. The fatal confrontation took place on Tuesday night when Tanu's father became enraged during a discussion about the marriage and shot her at close range. Her cousin, reportedly present with a pistol, fled the scene.

Police were alerted by neighbors and quickly arrived at the scene, arresting Mahesh Gurjar. Investigations are underway as authorities seek to understand the full details surrounding this tragic and senseless act of violence.
