Tragic Wedding Bus Accident Claims 5 Lives in Raigad District

Raigad District, Maharashtra: A private bus carrying a wedding party tragically overturned on Friday morning in Tamhini Ghat, Raigad district, resulting in five deaths and 27 injuries. The bus, heading from Lohegaon in Pune district to Birwadi in Mahad, lost control around 9:15 a.m. at a sharp bend, causing it to roll over.

The victims—Sangita Jadhav, Gaurav Darade, Shilpa Pawar, and Vandana Jadhav—were confirmed dead, while the identity of one male victim remains unidentified. Emergency teams rushed the injured to Mangaon Rural Hospital for treatment, with several in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations suggest speeding and the sharp turns of the ghat road were contributing factors. Authorities have filed an FIR against the bus driver for rash and negligent driving (Section 279) and death due to negligence (Section 304A). This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of unsafe driving practices, particularly on treacherous mountain routes.
