Western Railway Collects ₹84.20 Crores in Penalties Through Intensive Ticket Checking from April to August 2025

Mumbai, September 5, 2025 : In an ongoing effort to ensure smooth and comfortable journeys for genuine passengers, Western Railway has intensified ticket checking drives across suburban locals, mail/express trains, passenger trains, and holiday specials.

From April to August 2025, Western Railway collected a whopping ₹84.20 crores in fines from unauthorized and irregular travelers — marking a 35% increase over the same period last year and exceeding the Railway Board’s target by 13%.

Out of this, ₹23 crores came from the Mumbai suburban section, and ₹1.20 crores were collected from unauthorized entries into AC locals. In August 2025 alone, 2.39 lakh cases were detected, resulting in ₹13.21 crores in penalties — a staggering 166% rise compared to August 2024.

Over 36,000 unauthorised passengers were penalised in AC locals during this period, with penalties showing a 54% increase over last year. These outcomes demonstrate Western Railway’s commitment to curbing unauthorized travel and safeguarding public revenue.

Western Railway appeals to all passengers to travel only with valid and proper tickets.
