50-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Hit by Car Near Bandra-Worli Sea Link; Driver Detained

Mumbai, July 15: A tragic accident occurred near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Sunday night when a 50-year-old woman was fatally hit by a car while crossing the road in the rain. The woman, whose identity remains unknown, was struck by a vehicle driven by Gurvinder Singh Kir, 48, who has since been detained by the Bandra police.

According to the police, the incident happened around 10:30 PM near the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) office on the northbound stretch close to the Sea Link. Upon receiving information, a team from Bandra police reached the spot and found the woman lying unconscious. She was immediately rushed to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra West, where doctors declared her dead. Her body was later transferred to Cooper Hospital, Juhu, for a post-mortem examination.

A senior police official stated, “The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. She appears to be a destitute woman. No identification documents or mobile phone were found with her. It was raining heavily at the time of the accident, and visibility was low, which may have contributed to the mishap.”

The car driver, Gurvinder Singh Kir, a businessman dealing in crusher plants and a resident of Santacruz West, was traced and taken into custody. An FIR has been registered against him under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving), and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with section 184 (dangerous driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act. He has been served a notice and detained for further inquiry.
