Bengaluru Techie’s Tragic Suicide Sparks Call for Justice

Bengaluru, Karnataka:  In a deeply tragic incident, a 34-year-old deputy general manager of a private firm, Atul Subhash, ended his life on Monday, citing prolonged harassment by his wife, her family, and alleged corruption in the legal system. The incident has led to the filing of an FIR against four individuals, including Subhash’s estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and a family court judge.

Subhash, originally from Uttar Pradesh but residing in Bengaluru, left behind a 24-page suicide note and a video message outlining the alleged harassment he faced. The note repeatedly emphasized, “Justice is Due,” and detailed accusations of false cases, extortion, and judicial corruption. Subhash’s brother, Bikas Kumar, lodged the complaint, claiming that demands for large financial settlements and restricted access to Subhash’s four-year-old son had driven him to despair.

The FIR, registered at Marathahalli police station, names Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha Singhania, her brother Anurag Singhania, and her uncle Sushil Singhania. Charges under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) and Section 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of the BNS have been invoked.

Subhash’s brother stated that his sibling faced relentless stress, including nine cases filed against him by his wife, and a court-ordered monthly maintenance payment of ₹40,000 for his young son. Friends and family described him as a man pushed to his limits by systemic bias and personal turmoil.

Police discovered Subhash hanging in his locked apartment in Manjunatha Layout. His note and video were sent to an NGO, requesting justice and asking for custody of his son to be given to his parents. The family has appealed for a thorough investigation into the allegations, including claims of judicial corruption.

The incident has reignited debates about systemic fairness in marital disputes and the mental health toll on men facing legal battles. Investigations are ongoing.
