Deadline for Cybersecurity Policy Extended; ₹20.92 Crore Lost Daily to Fraud in Maharashtra

Mumbai, June 17, 2025 — The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for drafting the state's cyber security policy. As per the revised schedule, the "Maharashtra Cyber Security Policy" is now set to be formulated by January 2025. The objective of this policy is to curb cybercrime and protect critical infrastructure.

Cyber fraud cases in the state are rising rapidly, with official data revealing that financial frauds worth an average of ₹20.92 crore occur every day. Against this backdrop, the development of a comprehensive cyber security policy has become the need of the hour.

According to the state government's plan, a special task force named the "Maharashtra Cyber Force" will draft the framework of this policy in the coming months. The policy will include provisions for public-private partnerships, the use of advanced technologies, a data protection framework, and initiatives to enhance digital literacy among citizens.

The state's Minister for Information and Technology stated, "Cybersecurity is not merely a technical issue but also a matter of social and economic security. We are considering every aspect while formulating the policy."

The government believes that the new policy will provide citizens with a safer digital environment and enable more effective control over cybercrimes.
