Humanoid Robots to Reshape Job Market, Says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

San Francisco / Global Desk, June 21: The era of humanoid robots is fast approaching, and it could redefine the global job landscape, says Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and the creator of ChatGPT. Speaking on The Circuit with Emily Chang, Altman confirmed that humanoid robots are in development, warning that their arrival may accelerate job displacement at an unprecedented scale.
“I don’t think the world has really had the humanoid robots moment yet, and I don’t think that’s very far away,” Altman stated. “What happens when the humanoid robots get here? I mean, obviously do a lot of jobs.”
While Generative AI—such as ChatGPT—has already transformed workspaces and led to layoffs across global tech companies, the integration of physical AI in the form of humanoid robots could trigger even more significant changes.
Altman acknowledged that AI will make some job roles obsolete but noted that it will also create new types of employment, as has been seen during past technological revolutions. “If you look at the history of the world, technology-driven job change—where one class of jobs disappears and another emerges—is a consistent pattern. But what's different this time is the speed at which it’s happening,” he explained.
